5 Must-Haves to Bring to the Hospital for Birth

5 Must-Haves to Bring to <br>the Hospital for Birth

Giving birth is hard, but breastfeeding is like WTF?$#!

If you have recently given birth and haven't yet seen Ali Wong's special on Netflix then GET ON IT. It is seriously hilarious and her truths about motherhood will make you feel comforted and like you're not alone in this insane journey of becoming a mom.

Next time I'll be prepared

I gotta say, after a lot of hours of the internet, late night texts with my sister and friends, and a whole heck of a lot of Amazon free SAME DAY delivery, I got what I needed and fast.

(PLUG: If you haven't tried Amazon's same-day delivery you should check it out fast because when baby comes, its the easiest and fastest way to get what you need at your door the very next day! It saved me so many times. And it's free if you spend $35 or more, which you can always find a way to do.)

But looking back (and for next time) I'll bring these 5 things with me and save me from frantic same-day orders!

1. Motherlove Nipple Cream

Motherlove Nipple Cream
$10.95 on Amazon, and so worth it!Everything you hear pre-birth is like "Lanolin, Lanolin, Lanolin". I don't get it. That stuff is nasty and sticky and expensive messy goop.

Motherlove is soooo much better (just read some of the Amazon reviews) and I can honestly say it was one of the biggest things that helped me 'heal' after a rough ride of the first few days of breastfeeding. Just get it and bring it with you. You'll see what I mean. I promise.

2. Nursing Shirts

Living in a hospital gown is great. For like an hour. Then its gross. Especially with a nursing baby on you every two hours. Grab some nursing shirts and bring them with you (They have great ones at Motherhood Maternity, Target, and really anywhere). Don't worry about getting any pants (just watch Ali Wong's special to learn about your new Asian-pear friends).

3. Nursing Pillow

I had one of these at home but I didn't bring it to the hospital and I regretted it. Also, the one I had at home was kinda flat and being a tall person (5 ft. 9") I was much more comfortable in this taller version.

I also really like the pocket on this thing. I ended up putting things in there and was always thankful that it was there

4. Nipple Shield

Nipple Shield

I used these a lot in the beginning as my baby had a horrible latch and caused a lot of pain. So I'll be bringing these next time to make sure I have them ready from the start. The hospital did give me one later on, but it took a day or so to get it and they first gave me the wrong size and so next time I'll bring my own and if I need it I'll have it ready to go. Another thing that is handy to store in the nursing pillow 'pocket' above :)

5. Latch Assist

I found this little handy tool (its about the size of your thumb) later in my breastfeeding journey, but I swear if I had it in the hospital, things would have been SO much easier to figure out how to breastfeed. This was also really easy to store in the nursing pillow pocket from above.

Good luck prepping for your baby's birth! You'll do great- YOU GOT THIS!
